City of Long Beach is currently looking for a Disaster Preparedness Officer.


DESCRIPTION: The Department of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications has approximately 89 employees with a budget of $12.5 Million.  The Disaster Preparedness operation is one of three bureaus in the Department with approximately 4 employees and an operating budget of over $1.5 Million.

The Disaster Preparedness Officer is an at-will management position and reports directly to the Director. 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Oversees the effective and efficient management of the emergency operations within the City of Long Beach;
  • Assists with  planning, organizing, and directing the disaster preparedness activities and operations focused on the development of the City's emergency management program and the coordination of operations across the City departments and outside agencies;
  • Works to mitigate, plan and prepare for emergencies; ensures the readiness of the City's Emergency Operations Center;
  • Educates the City management, employees, community partner organizations and the public about preparedness;
  • Coordinates emergency response and recovery efforts; manages awarded Homeland Security Grant funded training and equipment procurement projects;
  • Chairs the Los Angeles County Area F group;
  • Develops tools and identifies resources to support the overall preparedness of the residents of the City of Long Beach.    
  • The Disaster Preparedness Officer generally works during normal business hours, but may be required to work nights, weekends, and extended hours or be on call when necessary.
